Overview of The Waves

The Waves

USVI, St. Croix

Aptly named, The Waves At Cane Bay is a condo property that hosts this small beach entry area. During periods of moderate surf, entry here can be challenging, but once through the surf zone, you will be rewarded will some of the nicest underwater experiences on the island. You can also find a small dive shop and restaurant here.

Directions: On highway 80 (the North Shore Road), just a couple of kilometers East of Cane Bay.

04/23/2006 Tim Wolfe (Avg: 3.16 Review) - The Waves is a couple hundred yards East of Cane Bay. I advise you enter just West of the hotel in a little bay that has a sandy bottom with a protective rock outcropping that breaks the surf (much better entry than the one pictured on this site in the middle of the hotel because the NE swell is blocked). Time your entry to the waves and swim hard for 30 seconds to get beyond the break. Short swim (5-7 minutes) to buoy. Similar dive to Cane bay - steep sand covered with coral, few large fish.

07/07/2002 Hugo and Sonja De Schryver (Avg: 3.95 Review) - One of the best shore dive sides in the world!

05/21/2002 Richard Saunders (Avg: 3.75 Review) - The Waves was a wonderful place to stay. The rooms were clean, spacious, and the ocean view was fantastic. The restaurant was very good but a little pricy. The diving was excellent (a little rough on entry) with the wall being only 100 yards from shore.

Parking at The Waves

You can find parking on either side of the road. Park safely on the South side, giving the condo residents access to the closer parking spaces.

Overview at The Waves

The restaurant is to the right, and the entry is at the bottom of the picture. Although the sea looks calm, the few swells you see are actually quite powerful.

Entry at The Waves

If, after asking for local advice, you believe you can negotiate the swells, make your way quickly through this surf zone. After a kick of 200 meters, you can drop down to the local wall. If possible, head West for the best exploring. Keep a good eye on your land marks, since there is no safe exit East of the Waves.
