The Hideaway is best for snorkeling, if you are in the area. We would call this a good beginner scuba dive, but the climb up and down the bluff can be difficult with 40 pounds of equipment. Definitely take a drive there to check it out for yourself, if for nothing more than admiring the sights of the Princeville Resort.

Directions: On the North coast on Highway 56, turn into the Princeville Resort area at about mile mark 28. Drive 1.5 miles all the way up to just before the Princeville Resort gate, and you'll find beach access parking to the right, next to the tennis courts.

07/04/2009 Anonymous (Avg: 4.46 Review) - It is great for snorkeling/scuba. Great, colorful fish. Almost perfect visibility. Not very many people there. Get there early to get a parking space, because the parking lot is really small. No bathrooms or any facilities, so take food/water with you. Going down the trail is the only bad thing about it, but definitely worth it.

07/08/2007 Amy Springmeyer (Avg: 2.69 Review) - Watch for sharks, don't go in at dusk and when there is turbulence. This is an out of the way beach with a steep stairway in disrepair down to the beach. It ranks high for solitude and beauty. We found it by looking in our guidebook Kauai Trailblazer.

05/13/2005 Gary Harmon (Avg: 2.90 Review) - Hard to find. Very steep trail down to this beach. It would be hard to carry diving tanks. Could be an unsafe hike. Beautiful place though.Love2Snorkel, Gary

10/24/2004 Anonymous (Avg: 2.75 Review) - Haven't been diving at this location, but I hike in here at least 1-3 times a year. Warning to scuba divers: This is a long, v-e-r-y steep dirt trail down to a remote beach with NO facilities at all. Tough with heavy gear!! On the photo showing the stairs, the stairs END right after the corner shown, then the muddy trail depends on how hard it has rained the last week - and this is the rainy side of Kauai! Beach is small but beautiful and waves, especially in winter, can be enormous!!! Only get in the water if surf is calm.

Head down the very narrow dirt path next to the tennis courts to the beginning of the bluff 'stairway.' The guard rails are there for a reason; it can get a little slippery when damp.
