Turtle Bay
|
|
Turtle Bay is a nice family beach area with all the facilities. The diving is excellent beyond the barrier reef, but snorkelers can find fish and an occasional turtle in the shallows. Remember not to approach a resting turtle any closer than 20 feet.
Directions: Off Kamehameha Highway. Northern most bay on Oahu in the Kawela area.

09/24/2006 Anonymous (Avg: 2.95 Review) - Visibility in the cove was good in the shallow water, but in the deeper areas around the coral, the visibility was pretty poor. Sea life, other than coral, was almost non-existent.
01/25/2006 Chad Gordon (Avg: 3.08 Review) - My wife and I did this dive and I think our max depth was 23 ft. Conditions were terrible but we did see a lionfish and huge tiger cowrie. This is not recommended for beginners because of the current and it is pretty boring for advanced divers.
06/06/2005 Bob G (Avg: 3.13 Review) - Came to Turtle Bay thinking it would be a nice easy dive as it was flat as could be. Entry was easy. Didn't mind paying for parking. At least the truck wouldn't get broken into. (When we left with an invalidated ticket, didn't get charged) Swim to the site mentioned in the picture was easy as the current just swept us out there. Max depth was 13ft and we were 100 yards outside the bay. Water was murky and there was very little wildlife. Turned back to the beach with 1700 lbs. and the trip back was tough. Had to fight current the whole way. Luckily, at that depth, air would last forever. I won't do this dive again. Much prefer Shark's Cove or Three Tables.
07/19/2004 Janet Shuldt (Avg: 4.17 Review) - This was an easy dive for me. Very relaxing! I saw a turtle there that was very cool, and I spent most of my time just sitting on the bottom watching her. Take stuff to enjoy the beach as long as you are there. No reason to rush off!
07/03/2004 Tom Howko (Avg: 4.18 Review) - Great dive - no problems with parking. Take ticket to front desk for stamp for have lunch at pool bar. No issues with people asking us questions. Easy dive for my 15 year old son who is new to diving.
07/26/2001 Luke VanValkenburg (Avg: 3.08 Review) - The thing that I do not like, is that you have to pay to park in there parking lot. Big crowds. Everyone comes to you and asks you questions. I would prefer to dive here at night just for those reasons...

The sandy beach entry means you can just walk right in. The exit from the reef is to the far left.

You can explore either the point or the reef itself. Both make for great pictures of the local sea life.
