Newport Pier
|
|
The Newport Pier offers an interesting dive for the adventurer. You can dive to 100 feet or more if you want to go beyond the pier; you can traverse the bottom looking for the creatures-of-the-sand; or you can explore under the pier for piling creatures or artifacts from the fishermen above!
Directions: Head down to New Port Beach. Off the Pacific Coast Highway, turn South on West Balboa Blvd. After 1.2 miles, you should run into the Pier!

01/25/2002 Kimberly Woods (Avg: 2.66 Review) - If the surf's down this is an incredible dive. Besides finding all the cool stuff dropped over the pier, there is plenty of marine life on the pier structures underwater. Plenty of schools of fish go through the pier and sandy bottom marine life is plentiful. Try to avoid weekends and the crowds due to the fishing line under the pier.

The beach is very popular in the summer, but since the best time to dive this area is in the Fall through Spring, you may have the beach to yourself.

You will want to enter near the pier area. Talk to one of the life guards for recommendations, or get the straight scoop from a local dive shop.
