Windansea
|
|
If you find an exceptionally calm day, dive Windansea. At the Southern entry you can find a rocky point to explore, and a few minutes off shore, you'll find a large reef. Because this beach is fully exposed to the full power of the Pacific, treat this site with respect.
Directions: 11 miles North of San Diego, take the Ardath Road exit to the West. In 1.4 miles bear left on Torrey Pines Road; 0.85 mile, turn right on Prospect Place; 0.2 miles, bear left onto Prospect Street; 0.75 miles bear left onto La Jolla Blvd; 1.1 mile turn right onto Palomar Ave. The beach is straight ahead.

02/06/2003 Rob Barton (Avg: 2.72 Review) - I've heard Windandsea is supposed to have plenty of animal life, but we must have missed out the day we went. The entry/exit was fairly easy. There were a few rocks but nothing to trip over. We saw plenty of eel grass and some scattered fish. I don't think we made it deep enough to find the really interesting stuff. So here's a tip: stay deeper than 25'.
05/30/2002 Anonymous (Avg: 2.98 Review) - Not that great for visibility. I'm sure there would be a lot of bugs out here during season, and it would be an easy night entry. But for a fun day dive, this place lacks in visibility.
10/24/2001 Anonymous (Avg: 2.80 Review) - Good site!

Parking is very limited along the beach road, so drop off your gear and park in the neighborhood.

At the South end of the beach, you may not want to negotiate this sandy path in full gear.
