09/21/2010 3.32 Mile Marker 4 The Big Island, Hawaiian Islands
We dove this site early in the morning, which was a good thing, as the parking lot filled up. The entry was a little difficult on account on the swells. But this is a very good dive. The lava tube is well worth the effort. We saw a turtle on our way out, and the Horned Helmet Shells out in the sand were an interesting find.
09/21/2010 3.25 Old Kona Airport beach The Big Island, Hawaiian Islands
Dove this site three years ago and enjoyed it then. Decided to dive it again on this trip. It was even better. The entry was farther to walk on account of a Carnival was set up at the far end of the run way. But it was worth the longer walk, visibility was very good. Saw a large green frog fish in about 20 feet, along with many reef fish.
09/21/2010 3.58 Puako Church The Big Island, Hawaiian Islands
Parked across from the church. Entry was easy, a little bit of a swim out to the edge of the reef. We headed right and found the Lava tubes. Saw 8-10 green sea turtles. Several were being cleaned by reef fish. A very good dive!
