Review Date AVG ShoreDiving Site 04/04/2005 4.23 Malaga Cove California Mid, USA WestMy buddy and I snorkeled Malaga at 9:30am on April 3, 2005. All I can say is "WOW!" We entered at the first point to the west, just past the small (but fun looking) surf break with two surfers out. About ten minutes amongst the shallow (10-15') kelp, we were approached by a curious harbor seal. The seal allowed us to stroke it, sniffed our fists, and was generally very puppylike in its activity. He hung about for 2 or 3 minutes before returning a few minutes later to playfully chew on my fin. Later during the snorkel, we found 3 or 4 juvenile horn sharks sitting amongst rocks. As we paddled towards shore, visibility got worse and no more sharks were spotted, although we did find a large sheep crab. Fantastic! 03/07/2005 3.52 South Crescent Bay California South, USA WestDove Dead Man's on March 6th. Only one other group of divers out that morning. Visibility was typical for the area. More garibaldi than I've ever seen in one place. Very enjoyable, although its hard to find the spot without someone who's been there before. To drop Dead Man's, surface swim northwest until you see a flagpole among the coastal homes to the northeast centered between the two guano encrusted rocks. It's about a 40' drop. |
