Snorkeling and Scuba Diving at LA - Cabrillo Beach

Cabrillo Beach does not offer any good diving, except when the rare chocolate lobsters are in the area.

I have been diving this site for a few years now, and have found the vis to be hit and miss. When it's a hit, it is awesome! For those who like diving Catalina's Casino Park but find it hard to fit the dive in the budget, this is the place to go. I took some friends here for their first time and they compared the diving to that at Catalina. The group took some great pictures and two of the divers speared some fish and fed the entire group of 12 divers with a fresh fish BBQ. The best time to dive here is during the quarter lunar cycles at high tide. Low current and great vis. Dive safe and enjoy!

This site is often over looked even by locals. There are three places to dive. One is off of a short man made Jetty that drops to about 25-30 feet. Among this jetty you can find all kinds of wild life. At my last dive there, we saw three different kinds of crab, 2 kinds of serf perch, a garibaldi and my buddy even saw a large sea lion. When I have been there I have had anywhere from 7-20 ft of vis. Another place to dive would be out in the sand beds. There is a huge colony of sand dollars with some sardines and others swimming in the area. If you do not mind a small swim, you can enter the kelp beds about 40 to 50 yards out.
